Summary
The world is currently facing multiple challenges, such as geopolitical crises like the enduring conflict in Ukraine, post-COVID economic stagflation, and increasing emissions. These issues require a comprehensive global response, particularly for the countries from the Global South.
Under the current leadership, India is positioning itself as a voice of the Global South with the ancient concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the world as one family. This chapter focuses on the convergence of India’s interest with its advocacy for the Global South and evaluates India’s response by examining its policies and approaches.
India’s hosting of the “Voice of the Global South” Summit, the diplomatic mission of Vaccine Maitri, call for suspending intellectual property rights of COVID-19 vaccines in the face of Western resistance and efforts at making global forums truly representative, reinforces India’s proactive role in responding to concerns of Global South. Additionally, the chapter also delves into climate change negotiations and highlights India’s attempt at a leadership role in turning the voice of the Global South into a credible one in times of “polycrisis.”
