Summary

Abu and his mentor, Mansika, met at a restaurant in Delhi. Over dinner, they discussed Abu’s PhD research on the role of fish stench in maintaining social distancing between coastal and inland people in Kerala. Abu shared stories about his childhood, including his strong body odor and his family’s love for fish. He also mentioned his friend Liela, who inspired him to explore the topic of smell. Mansika shared insights from her own PhD research and they discussed the significance of smell in various cultures. As they finished their meal, Mansika encouraged Abu to visit her in Kerala and Abu agreed, saying “Inshallah, I will.”
