Summary

Decentralized finance (DeFi) and smart contracts are trending topics in academic studies. With the use of blockchain, the contracts are entirely digital and run on small computer programs. However, despite being relatively safe and advantageous, risks are also present there that cannot be eliminated.

Given that the phenomena are expanding quickly and the value of decentralized finance collateral fluctuates quickly, it would be fascinating to know whether these changes negatively affect such contracts.

The primary aim of the paper is to synthesize the research on smart contracts through the bibliometric methodology. The findings indicate yearly publication patterns, top leading authors, countries, and journals, as well as the top most occurrence keywords of smart contracts subject. Future areas for potential scholars are also discussed in this review study.
